Chapter 2 The Seven Seals already Broken

◆ The Battle of the Persian Gulf (The Iran-Iraq War)

[8-8] The second angel blew his trumpet, and something like a great mountain, burning with fire, was thrown into the sea ;

[8-9] and a third of the sea became blood, a third of the living creatures in the sea died, and a third of the ships were destroyed.

 When the second trumpet was sounded, the scene on the screen changed, and suddenly, "something like a great mountain, which is burning vigorously" jumped into John's sight. The description of " ... , was thrown into the sea" expresses the abruptness, probably this will mean a huge crude-oil tanker. Since the word "blood" may be used as the pronoun, such as filthy things or something detested, it is thought that this has suggested that crude oil flowed out in large quantities by stranding of a tanker or other causes, and the wide range of the sea was polluted and many marine organisms became extinct.

 "A third of the ships were destroyed" suggests that the majority of ships, which were sailing the whole neighborhood, were destroyed, went up in flames, and a lot of crude oil flowed out. Then, as the incident which suits this suggestion, you could remember that in the Iran-Iraq War (1980), both sides attacked each other's crude-oil tanker, which sailed the Persian Gulf, and if it is compared with the tonnage of the vessel, which sank by World War 2, the ships of the half suffered serious damage.

 Of course, John should not have known about the reason "something like a great mountain was burning with fire," and also the Persian Gulf War. However, by that, he did not insert his feeling or prejudice at all, and the very important information has been correctly hidden in the casual short text.
